Every day our bodies are being bombarded by toxic chemicals. Some people estimate that we are exposed to over 700k chemicals each day, and that is a modest estimate. Your household cleaners are major culprits.
Did you know that over 100k children under the age of 6 suffer some form of illness due to household cleaners each year? And this is just in the U.S. alone. Children are often more vulnerable to chemical exposure as they develop early on in life. These chemicals may disrupt the development of some their vital systems, such as: neurological, endocrine (produces body’s hormones/regulates cell + organ activity), and immune systems.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not fond of the idea of having a walking zombie for a child! So on my journey of living a more holistic life I’ve decided to incorporate green cleaning to the list. That list gets longer every day, but little changes here and there do add up and increase the chances of living a healthier life–for me and my family.
First on the list is this great liquid laundry soap.
Liquid Laundry Soap
1 c castile soap
1 c baking soda (aluminum free)
1/3 c coarse salt
7 L hot water
20-40 drops essential oils
Whisk all ingredients in a large bucket and pour into airtight glass container(s).
Shake before each use (As the ingredients separate). Add ¼ c to each load of wash.
Try using essential oils such as: Purify, Lemongrass, Lavender, Tea Tree or On Guard. These have natural cleansing properties, not to mention a great smell. For this most recent batch, lemon and purify essential oils were used. The subtle scent is heavenly!
I recommend placing the full container in a dark space as essential oils are volatile and will evaporate in light or heat. For this same reason the container needs to be airtight and kept closed when not in use.
*You may also add Epsom salt to act as a natural fabric softener.
*Add a small amount of white vinegar to your load for those extra soiled clothes.
*Sources say this laundry soap is safe to use in H.E. washers.
